Finally…. setup and data files for some Yaesu and Icom radios is now available.
These files are only available to logged in current members.
The supplied files contain information updated from the WIA each month, the process is 95% automated. So the source config files will usually appear 1-2 days after the WIA update.
The specific model setup files (Clone and icf files) will generally be available about a week later.

MacOs Software for ThumbDV
If you have the ThumbDV or the DV3000 from NW Digital there is a new piece of Mac software to drive them natively. The software is called Buster.
The App is on the Mac App store and is free. With a little bit of tweaking I even added VK2RBV to the list and made a direct connection to it.

Current Callsigns showing as available in ACMA/WIA
The new ACMA system is in place and it seems that there are some issues with the initial deployment. Several current callsigns have started showing up as available. I have included 2 links here, the first is to the search facility of acma.
This second link is to the WIA available callsign lookup. Given that this is automatically built from ACMA data, the place for fixing is probably the ACMA.
More news as it comes to hand.
“Indoor” GPS Antenna Amplifier.
I bought one of these GPS Antenna kits in March ’15. They are powered by USB (5V) and seem to come with around 5m antenna leads. Brian VK2NQ had one that he used at the club a few times and I thought it was a great idea. Around the $US30-40 range on eBay some come with wall warts or car 5v adapters.
Planetary Society Lightsail has gone quiet, they are now relying on a classic IT bug excuse!

The planetary society launched a prototype lightsail last week, and it appears that a known defect may have got to them! The manufacturer advised that they may have a buffer problem about 2 days before they may have had a buffer problem! Although they continue to try and reset, they are now hoping for that classic IT excuse for crashed PC’s, Servers, Databases, Networks etc… “Your [xxxxxx] crashed because it was impacted by a stray space particle”. Turns out this really happens, and it happens so frequently to unshielded devices like cubesats that they expect it to occur within 3 weeks!
You can still try and listen out for them on: 437.435 MHz, AX.25, FSK, 9600, call sign KK6HIT.

And here is some possible viewing times over Sydney for the next week. Unfortunately the chances of seeing it at the moment are tiny! If the sail does unfold it is expected to be very bright.
